Andrés Santana

He is one of the main freelance producers in Spain. He started to be recognised by “the Spanish Film industry” in 1984. This year he worked as production director of “Los santos inocentes” by Mario Camus. This is one of the most emblematic European films of that decade. At that time Mr. Santana had been dedicated to the film industry for 15 years.

At present, he has been at it for 45. He has produced 19 films, including his last film “Nadie quiere la noche”(Isabel Coixet) featuring Juliette Binoche, Rinko Kikuchi and Gabriel Byme. This film is at the editing stage and being shoot partially in The Canaries to avail of the tax breaks incentives that the islands offer to the film industry. Other films are “Blackthom”(2011), “El ultimo truco”(2008), “Hay motivo”(2004), “El viaje de Carol”(2002), “Mararia”(2008), “Secretos del corazón”(1997), “Días contados”(1994) and “El rey pasmado”(1991).

Andrés Santana has been production director of 31 films, “Bajarse al moro”, “El sueño de Tánger”, “El viaje a ninguna parte”, and “Laberinto de pasiones” among others.

He has also worked as part of the production team of over 100 films, “La fuga de Segovia”, “El CrackII”, “Opera prima”, “Estoy en crisis”, “¿Qué hace una chica como tu en un sitio como este?” and “Cateto a babor”. He has filmed with the majority of the most prestigious Spanish film directors, Fernando Fernan Gomez, Pedro Almodovar, Fernando Trueba, Fernando Colomo, Ricardo Franco, Antonio Jose Betancor, Montxo Armendariz, Sigfrid Monleón, Mateo Gil o Imanol Uribe. He has worked with this last producer of most of his films.

A film has never before received 19 nominations to the Goya Film Awards as “Días Contados” did. It received the Goya award to the best film and also “La Concha de Oro” at San Sebastian International Film Award. His films have been nominated to the Goya Film Awards in 14 different occasions, obtaining 25 prizes in total. At a personal level, Mr. Santana has been nominated 14 times, winning in 3 of them. He received the Angel Azul, an internationally recognized award at the Berlin film festival, with “Secretos del corazón”. He also was nominated to the Hollywood Oscar Awards with that film.
